Stop the Crop

For a sustainable, GMO-free future

Chi decide?

On 11 July representatives of national governments will decide if the EU authorise imports of complex GM crops, called smartstax. That means that a Monsanto maize that produces 6 different toxins and resists herbicides glyphosate and glufosinate can enter our food chain.

One of the claims made by proponents of genetically modified crops is that GM technology increases farmers’ seed choices. They also claim that farmers in countries that restrict GMO production have fewer seed options. But recent research shows the opposite—that instead of increasing farmers’ choice, the introduction of GM crops has limited farmers’ seed options.

According to Danish media, "Monsanto will halt production of genetically modified corn in all of Europe, except Spain, Portugal and Czech republic. The agribusiness multinational states not to spend any more money on trials, development, marketing, court cases or anything else to get GM corn accepted in Europe."
